FHA Extends Help for Maui County Homeowners Affected by Wildfires

If you live in Maui County, Hawaii, and you have a home loan insured by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA), there’s good news. The FHA is giving you more time to deal with your mortgage if your home was affected by the wildfires.

You won’t have to worry about losing your home to foreclosure until at least May 6, 2024. This gives you extra time to talk to your mortgage servicer and get help from housing counselors. The FHA wants to make sure you have the support you need to recover from the wildfires without the added stress of foreclosure.

If your home is damaged and needs repairs or rebuilding, there are programs to help you. Just reach out to your mortgage servicer, and they can guide you through the process.

  • To explore your options, contact the FHA Resource Center at 1-800-304-9320 or go to the FHA Disaster Relief webpage.
  • Reach out to a housing counseling agency approved by HUD. Their counselors can assist you in finding the right help and available resources.
  • If your home is severely damaged and needs rebuilding or replacement, contact a lender approved by the FHA to learn about the FHA Section 203(h) program. This program provides 100% financing for eligible homeowners for reconstruction.
  • If you’re looking to purchase or repair a damaged home, speak to an FHA-approved lender about the FHA Section 203(k) loan program. It allows you to finance both the home purchase or refinance and the costs of repairs or renovations in one mortgage.
